PC Pro looked into the bloatware included on new laptops by major manufacturers, measuring how memory, HDD space and boot times are negatively effected. And good lord, it’s worse than you thought.
Bloatware, the crap software that manufacturers pre-install on their computers that include demos, media software and other junk you never use, is infuriating. And seeing the numbers, it’s even more insane that these companies are crippling their own products with this junk. Here’s how the worst offenders break down, compared to clean installs on the same machines:
Acer: 2:01 longer boot time, 952MB larger memory footprint, 2.4GB less HDD space
HP: 1:35 longer boot time, 1.06GB larger memory footprint, 2.18GB less HDD space
Dell: 0:52 longer boot time, 1.18GB larger memory footprint, 3GB less HDD space
Sony: 1:54 longer boot time, 1.11GB larger memory footprint, 1.3GB less HDD space

Acer still remains one of the number one suppliers of netbooks, despite its recent problems of having to recall one of its netbooks. The Acer Aspire One AOD250 is simply an extension of the Acer family. Since the Aspire One AOD250 has been released, it is easily considered one of Acer’s best selling netbooks.

The netbook is not nearly as thick as the original Acer Aspire One. The Aspire One AOD250 has new and improved measurements that take out some of the bulk, giving it a slimmer appearance. The Aspire One AOD250 is also pretty light. It’s one of the lightest netbooks around weighing in at 2.7 pounds.
The screen on the Aspire One AOD250 is 10.1 inches wide and has a 1024 x 600 resolution. Although the Aspire One AOD250 is lightweight and ultra portable, it does have a downside. The keyboard is extremely small and cramped which makes the typing experience difficult. Although the keyboard is cramped, the designers of the Aspire One AOD250 attempt to make up for this problem with its battery life. The battery life is impressive and well above the average netbook. Consumers can expect to keep the Aspire One AOD250 running for almost six hours before the battery dies.
The Aspire One AOD250 is different from other netbooks with its operating systems. It offers a dual-boot system that features Windows XP and Google Android. Although netbook users are expecting the Windows operating system, the Google Linux-based system comes as a big surprise. To enter the Android system, consumers simply reboot the computer and they can also use an Android configuration tool that sits on their desktop. Android does come with a few gadgets like Google Talk, Webmail, Calendar, and FireFox’s web browser.
Consumers can expect to pay $350 for the Aspire One AOD250. The netbook is available in several colors including Diamond Black, Seashell White, Ruby Red, and Sapphire Blue.
