This Batteryless Remote From NEC Uses The Power Of Button Mashing To Be Powered

NEC piezoelectric Remote

In the past we’ve seen piezoelectric technology applied to flooring in train stations and mats to take advantage of people’s stepping power.  Now the technology is being applied to a home theater remote control developed by NEC and Soundpower. How does it work you ask?  Instead of being powered by batteries, the remote harvests the kintentic energy of a pushed button and uses that to power itself, hence piezoelectric technology.  It’s not too often that my remote dies, but it would be great to have at least one self sustainable device.

The Dwarf 360° Omni-Directional USB Powered Vibrating Speaker is a compact and portable speaker that can be used with a laptop, PC, DVD player, CD, or MP3 payer.   Although the speaker can connect to a variety of things, most consumers will likely use the speaker for their computers. Because  the speaker is small it can be placed anywhere.  Consumers can take it around the house and place it on a table, floor, or prop it on the fireplace. dwarf The speaker provides great bass and sound and will vibrate.  The technology for the speaker was developed by the USA Navy and is considered cutting edge.  Apparently, the USA Navy was using the technology found in the speakers in their radar systems. The speaker vibrates and then uses whatever object it is sitting on to amplify sound.   The Dwarf 360° Omni-Directional USB Powered Vibrating Speaker is also unique because of its creative drum shape. The sound travels in a 360-degree radius and evenly distributes sound.  This circular shape is perfect for people spread around the speaker. Some of the features of the speaker include a tumbler design, included USB cable, and there is also a mini USB port attached to the speaker as well. Consumers can expect to pay about $25 for the Dwarf 360° Omni-Directional USB Powered Vibrating Speaker.

Casio’s EX-G1 Camera Is Most Rugged And Most Thin

casio-ex-g1-camera

Today, Casio trotted out what they’re calling the thinnest ruggedized digital camera, the EX-G1.  And at .78-inches I might have to agree, although I didn’t really do any comparison, but it does sound thin for being shock-resistant, freezeproof, dustproof and waterproof.  And as you’ve probably noticed the styling bites off of their G-Shock line of phones.

Spec wise were talking a 12.1 megapixel sensor, 848×480 movide mode, microSD card slot, 3x optical zoom, 2.5-inch LCD and Advanced Dynamic Photo function.  There’s a bit more details on just how rugged the EX-G1 is after the ‘leap’. You can expect the EX-G1 to arrive sometime December for $299.99 – it will also come in black. (more…)

Etch A Sketch Freestyle

November 26th, 2009

When Etch A Sketch was first released in the 1960’s the toy looked different.  The Etch A Sketch was a thick and flat gray screen in a plastic frame.  The screen had a red frame with two knobs on the lower corners.  The toy proved to be a huge hit, and became one of the best known toys of its generation.  The Etch A Sketch is considered a classic so it’s not surprising that manufacturers wanted to produce a new Etch A Sketch that would recapture attention. etc The new Etch A Sketch which has been renamed the Etch A Sketch Freestyle still has the gray screen and red border, but now there is only one controller knob.  The knob has the ability to swivel 360 degrees.  The traditional solid red plastic frame also has a lot more intricacy to its design.  The item is also available in pink. Although the toy looks different, its purpose is still the same.  The Etch A Sketch Freestyle is a mechanical drawing toy that relies on dexterity and creativity.   Because the knob allows consumers to swivel it in all directions, it is easier for a person to draw curves, loops, and other lines.  The Etch A Sketch has been around a long time and it may be difficult for many of the original users to accept the fact that the toy has changed. Similar to the original, the Etch A Sketch Freestyle requires a bit of shaking to erase and start over with a new drawing.  Consumers can expect to pay $14.99 for the Etch A Sketch Freestyle.

Watches are quite the man-made marvel.  So tiny, yet so complex and precise, I have no idea what is the appropriate way to price a watch.  This absolutely stunning Arena Metasonic watch is something that would probably make Bond himself get spinal tingles. Before you start thinking about buying this lovely, let me unleash the price. $900,000!!!  Despite the extreme attention to detail is there anyway anybody could justify a purchase like this?   The underneath view is spectacular and I love to see one of these in person.
